I Follow My Inner Guidance

There is an Igbo proverb that says, “Mmadu ju dibia, dibia a ju Chi ya”—“What a person asks a diviner, the diviner must first ask their Chi.”

This reminds us that true guidance is never far from us. It is already within us.

In many African wisdom traditions, the highest form of knowing is intuitive. Our ancestors understood that divine guidance doesn't come from outside, but through our personal connection with Source; what some call Chi, Ori, Kra, or the Higher Self. Intuition is not guesswork; it is the quiet language of the Creator speaking within. When our inner channel is clear, we receive direction without confusion. We recognize the signs, the nudges, the inner knowing that leads us toward what is true and right for us.

To follow our inner guidance is to trust that we are not lost. Even when the road is uncertain, our inner compass remains steady; speaking through gut feelings, recurring dreams, synchronicities, or moments of deep clarity. This is how we live a life aligned with divine order: by listening, by trusting, by following.

When this virtue is imbalanced, we live from the surface of things; driven by ego, fear, or societal conditioning. We doubt ourselves, seek constant validation, or become overly dependent on intermediaries to tell us what to do. We begin to silence our own voice in favor of the loud logic of the world. In this state, we are cut off from our spiritual intelligence and lose the sacred opportunity to co-create with the universe.

On a collective level, this disconnection shows up in systems that devalue intuitive ways of knowing; cultures that worship reason but ridicule spirit, that elevate religious dogma but silence personal revelation. In such a world, people are discouraged from trusting themselves, and instead are conditioned to outsource their power.

The imagery for this card shows an African woman, her face gently nested within another; her inner self. The inner figure has an open third eye, a symbol of higher perception and clear vision. It is a reminder: when we truly see from within, we no longer wander. We walk with knowing.
